NBA 2K17 Top The Sales Chart In September 2016 NPD

According to industry intelligence firm The NPD Group, the U.S. gaming business generated $838.2 million last quarter, in addition, NBA 2K17 was the best selling game in the month of September 2016 in North America.

 

Games that are top of the list for 2016 include NBA 2K17, which took the top spot, followed by Madden NFL 17, FIFA 17 and NHL 17.

 

For software it has been a tough year compared to last September. We have seen many new releases, such as Forza Horizon 3, FIFA 17, NHL 17 and NBA 2K17. Most of these titles haven’t been able to do as well as the versions that came out in 2016.

 

VentureBeat posted the top 10 best selling games based on NPD reports:

 

 

"This month’s new software releases — NBA 2K17, FIFA 17, NHL 17 and Forza Horizon 3 — could not compete with last year’s stronger slate of new games," said Naji. "September 2015 included NBA 2K16, FIFA 16, NHL 16, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Destiny: The Taken King, Mad Max, Disney Infinity 3.0, and Super Mario Maker for the Wii U."

"Software spending declined by 21 percent to $473 million," said Naji. "The month was strong in new releases of sport games and although NBA 2K17 outperformed last year’s NBA 2K16 in dollar revenue for September, other new sport games, FIFA 17 and NHL 17 both underperformed in dollar sales compared to their predecessors."

 

In terms of hardware, the Xbox One S outsold the PS4 Slim. Apart from this, NBA 2K17 will be available for Nintendo Switch, Sony has partnered with ESL to introduce a new Tournaments feature to the PlayStation 4, and The first Major tournament will be for NBA 2K17, and will run from 27 October – 26 November, with Major Cup rounds occurring every Saturday. In a recent update from 2K Games, the company confirmed that NBA 2K17 will support native 4K resolution and will run on PS4 Pro. Things will be more interesting in the near future with the PS4 Pro and Nintendo Switch on the horizon. 

 

While most have dropped in sales, NBA 2K17 has been doing well. In fact it outperformed NBA 2K16 in September, while NHL 17 and FIFA 17 went down compared to last year.
