Three Additional Tips On Improving NBA 2K17 Face Scanning Process

These days MyNBA2K17 is just gone through a recent update, or rather it has started to push out to users, which introduces the ability to scan your face into the app and sync it with the full game so you can essentially play as yourself.

Scanning your face into NBA 2K17 can be a little tricky, but the process does work.

The MyNBA 2K mobile application (which is used to scan your face) and The Prelude (the preview to your MyCareer journey) have been released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In addition to the face scanning feature which works for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the app also lets you make purchases of items for the console game from your mobile device so if you wanted to pick something up before you play you won’t have to wait till you get home to do so.

The app is free on Android and the iOS operating systems.

The Prelude download is also free on PSN and Xbox Live. The NBA 2K Community Manager Ronnie Singh, a.k.a. “Ronnie 2K” tweeted a link to a list of best practices for the scanning process.

The list is helpful, but having scanned my face for both the XB1 and PS4, I’ve found three additional tips that can also help to improve the process.

Brian Mazique has gotten pretty good results with his scan, so I’m happy to share.

Scan Outdoors If You Can

When the face scanning concept was first introduced in NBA 2K15, one of the things the developers advised was to perform the scan with natural sun light.

This was difficult back then because the scan had to be done with the PS4 camera or the Xbox Kinect. With the process now moving over to a mobile device, it’s much easier to go outside to do the scan.

The even lighting should give you your best results.

If You’re Inside, Use The Rear-Facing Camera

If going outside isn’t practical for you, you’ll want to find the most well-lit and evenly illuminated area indoors to do the scan. You’ll also want to consider using the rear-facing camera.

It can obviously be difficult to follow the on-screen instructions this way, so standing in front of a mirror while using the rear-facing camera is recommended.

I had good success with this method in front of my bathroom mirror.

Look Directly At the “Scan Your Face” Message

What should you be looking at while the scan is taking place? If you’re using the front-facing camera, stare at the “scan your face” message–even as you turn your head.

If you’re using the rear-facing camera, stare at the camera lense on the far right. It should be the spot where you’d see the flash if you were taking a picture.

This should keep your eyes centered as you turn your head from side to side.

Hopefully this helps anyone who may be experiencing difficulty with the process. Happy scanning.

The app is free to download and install, and is likely a good install for those who are huge NBA 2K fans, or just fans of the NBA in general.
